The term “proof” comes from the English and refers to coins of special quality and corresponds to the German manufacturing process Polierte Platte. In this process, the polished and hand-selected blanks of the coins are struck several times to achieve a particularly precise and detailed minting. The minting die is also repeatedly reworked. The process is often combined with high relief minting. Proof coins are exceptional collector’s items and genuine works of art, which is also reflected in the price.
